About this web site

This web site is part of an on-going project to record the history of archaeology using video and related technologies. Over the last few years, Kathy Jones and others have conducted interviews with pioneers in the field of North American Archaeology.

These pages are based on a video documentary about the archaeological work that Gordon Willey and Richard Woodbury did in Florida during the summer of 1940 and the later synthesis of Florida Gulf Coast Archaeology published in 1949. The project began in 1990 as a video interview with Gordon Willey. The web site will give you a flavor of the discussions that were recorded during the interview as well as other research into that period of American Archaeology.

Special Thanks to Gordon R. Willey and Richard Woodbury for their kindness and generosity during this project.
