INTRODUCTION

The Conservation Department serves the Museum's programs and staff to facilitate ongoing research access, public exhibit, proper care and long-term preservation of the anthropological collections. The Conservation Department advises on collections care, provides environmental monitoring, initiates collection condition surveys, and implements conservation treatment and material analysis to support preservation initiatives.

While the primary responsibility of the Conservation Department is to the Peabody Museum, the Department may provide fee-for-service consultation and treatment to other Harvard entities and departments, and to institutions who manage and preserve cultural materials.
