ABOUT THIS WEB SITE The Peabody Museum published its first home page in May of 1995. Since then we have created and published home pages for all of the Harvard Museums. The initial home page content and images for each museum were taken from a publication entitled Treasures of Art and Science at Harvard University. This effort provided the first internet presence for other Harvard museums. Now, in 2006, most of the Harvard museums have developed their own web sites. Since its first incarnation in 1995, the Peabody's site has undergone several major revisions. Though the site was developed primarily by the Office of Information Services and Technology, various pages and sites within are created in conjunction with staff members and faculty of the Anthropology department, and others. Faculty and staff input and cooperation has been essential in developing what you see here. The current design and structure was created by Lara Greenwood; some design elements were adapted from an original brochure design by Kim Cafasso. The site has two parts:
In addition, there are several ways of navigating the site, either by using the search engine, or navigating the table of contents. We continue to develop this site, by adding to the on-line features, but also by continually updating the departmental pages so that they have become sites in themselves. The conservation and archival collections web sites, for instance, have been developed by closely working with the heads of those departments; other departmental sites will be developed using these comprehensive ones as models. In December 1998 we added a translation into Spanish of several pages within the site. See also the credits for various sites within the Peabody web site. |
