Although they comprise only a small percentage of the Museum's holdings, the ethnographic collections contribute disproportionately to the Peabody's standing as a world-class research institution. The vast collection contains especially fine holdings from North America, Africa, and Oceania, but also objects from Asia, Central and South America, and Europe.

It is the policy of the Peabody Museum to make its collections and associated documentation available to the Harvard community, the broader academic community, and the general public for teaching, research, publication, exhibition, replication of indigenous techniques, and artistic endeavors. The nature and conditions of use mut be consistent with the Museum’s commitment to the care and preservation of its collections. All requests for access or information must be made in writing to:
