Metals

Bronze tweezers in native style.

Bronze pins, such as these, are the most common metal artifact.

Metal objects found at Magdalena de Cao Viejo are almost all European imports or objects made in European style. One exception to this is a small native-style tweezers which may have been useful for plucking hairs or splinters. A large, triangular shaped base of an inkwell, candlestick, or similar device was found on the floor of a house in Unit 1 in 2006. A flat copper object, perhaps a cockade for a hat or a badge for attachment to clothing, also was found in the same location. An iron key, small copper bells and a number of pins also were recovered.

A small metal cross with broken upper part was found on the floor of Unit 1.

The candle stick base found in Unit 1.

An iron key found in the church area.
