Research Visits

Because of pending renovations, the Peabody Museum’s Archaeology, Ethnology, and Archives collections will be closed to research as of July 1, 2015.  We regret that we will be unable to respond to electronic or telephone requests, nor will in-person research visits be scheduled as of that date. We anticipate re-opening to research in late 2016.  Please check back to this web site for updated information, which will be posted as it becomes available.
These closures will not affect the
  • osteology collection,
  • Zooarchaeology Lab, or
  • Corpus of Maya Heiroglyphics Project
which will continue to provide research services during this time.

Requests & Protocols

The Peabody Museum collections and associated documentation are available for teaching, research, publication, exhibition, replication of indigenous techniques, and artistic endeavors. The nature and conditions of use must be consistent with the Museum's commitment to the care of its collections. Allow at least three weeks' advance notice to schedule appointments. You may submit inquiries or arrange visits via our online Research Request Form, email us at pmresrch@fas.harvard.edu or contact us in writing at the address below.

Appraisal & Authentication

For legal, ethical, and best practice reasons, Peabody Museum staff and curators are unable to authenticate or appraise objects in person or via email. Please contact the regional branch of the Appraisers Association of America or the American Society of Appraisers directly. The Museum is in no way affiliated with these organizations.
