The registration department oversees all collections entering or leaving the Peabody Museum. It processes Museum acquisitions and deaccessions, oversees outgoing and incoming loans, and administers the analytical sampling of Museum collections. The Department advises on intellectual property issues, manages copyright transfer, and oversees reproduction rights for the object and audio collections.

The Department supports professional education through museum studies internships. These internships are the students' field placement component of an accredited graduate museum studies program.
